What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Contact forms

If you contact us for any reason, including (but not limited to) providing feedback on the website, subscribing to our newsletter, seeking to become an LDEA member, or editing your membership details, we may store public and non-identifying data for up to thirteen calendar months in order to improve our services and to contact you in the future.

We may store contact form information, including private and identifying data (such as your Liberal Democrats membership number, or your home address), for a longer period if you have subscribed to an LDEA membership, in accordance with the membership agreement.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Who we share your data with

We may share data entered into our contact forms or comments with the Liberal Democrats (UK Political Party) if you have identified yourself as a member or registered supporter of the Liberal Democrats, for purposes of verifying your membership status.

We may also share public and non-identifying data (such as, the volume of our site visitors or the geographical location of our members) with the Liberal Democrats to satisfy conditions of our status as a Liberal Democrats Association.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue, and so your comment may be displayed on the website.

You may delete your comment(s) and all accompanying data at any time.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you.

This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. It also does not include data contingent on your membership of the LDEA or your status as a member or supporter of the Liberal Democrats (UK Political Party), unless and until you withdraw your membership of the LDEA and/or the Liberal Democrats.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments are checked through an automated spam detection service, as noted on the comment form.

If you send us a payments via PayPal, a payment card service, or a card verification service, your data may be shared with those services according to your agreement(s) those services.

How we protect your data

All data entered and processed by this website is stored by us via Loopia Sweden, a web hosting service, and is protected compliant with the laws and regulations of the Kingdom of Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the European Union.

Data processed via this website is secured by Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and is stored in an encrypted and password protected server environment.
